Victorian View at Windy Ridge Farm

After graduating from high school in 1969 I started college at Virginia Tech (nee; VPI) where I obtained a BS in Mathematics. It was at VPI that I met my wife Dot We were married in June of '73 and after graduation relocated to the Northern Virginia area were I worked for the Department of the Navy as a civilan employee at the David Taylor Naval Research Center. We started a family and bought a home in Fairfax where we resided for the next 10 years. With three growing boys Dot decided the Fairfax house was getting cramped and wanted to move to a larger home. The entire NVA area was growing rapidly and green space was disappearing at an alarming rate. I agreed with the proviso that the new home had to include some acreage outside the reach of the metropolitan sprawl. After researching the real estate markets we determined that the best fit for our budget was likely Frederick County, MD. and we began shopping for a new home. Dot had some very specific ideas about the type of house she wanted. I wanted enough acreage to raise a few farm animals and I didn't want to get caught up in anything with restrictive covenants. After looking at a number of older homes and a few developer tracts we decided we'd be better off buying some unimproved acreage on the western side of the county and building a custom home. After some searching we found a wooded site located at thje top of a steep hillside. It had no public road access but was surrounded by a beautiful and massive civil war era stone wall and offered a gorgeous view of the valley. Despite some reservations about the difficult access we decided to purchase it. We cleared a building site on a "level" area midway up the hill and built a very traditional wood farmhouse type residence. In April, 1991 we moved into our new home which Dot promptly dubbed Victorian View
